Notes about James Henry Saterfiel
Grandson, Herman Saterfiel, tells us that "Grandad Saterfiel and Uncle Fred were Primitive Baptist preachers. . .Hardshell Baptists". GL
Letter: Mississippi Baptist Historical Commission, Leland Speed Library, Miss. College. Dated 3/7/1978. A J.H. Saterfield is listed as an ordained minister in the minutes of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Assoc. at least from 1899-1917. He is also listed as a delegate for the Mt Pleasant church to the Gen. Assoc. of regular Baptist. Signed Mrs. Alice G. Cox
Aunt Maud Gibb Saterfiel said he was in New Orleans sick in the hospitol when someone said that there was a man in the hospitol named saterfiel. Aunt Lula and Ora checked and it was their dad. He was in a coma. He came out but no one knows where he died. It is said that he died on a train on his way home.

James Henry Saterfiel was born in March 1856 in Miss. (acc. to 1900 census) or March 1858 in Enterprise, Miss. (per Mac Saterfield)
He married Mary Rebecca Jones, daughter of Joshua and Elizabeth Prater Jones. James and Mary were parents of ten children but four died in their early years.
He became a Baptist minister, a "Primitive Baptist preacher and was active for many years in the Mt Pisgah Baptist Association in eastern Miss. (Counties of Newton, Scott. . .).
James' wife, Mary, must have died by 1911. James married her younger sister, Harriet Melissa Jones, in Nov. 1911.
Rev. Saterfiel was on a train bound for New Orleans when he suffered a stroke or heart attack. He had been visiting his family in West Monroe, LA, and was on his way to see family in New Orleans. His daughters, Lula and Ora, both nurses at Big Charity Hospital in New Orleans, heard there was a patient named Saterfiel in a coma. They found it was their father. It is not known if he regained consciousness. He died in New Orleans on 12 May 1927. He was buried in Poplar Springs, Newton Co., MS
